Knocked by some critics as an unnecessary addition to the Mazda line because of its chunky lines, especially when compared to the brand's much sportier CX-7, the 2008 Mazda Tribute, which is a re-branded, co-developed version of the Ford Escape with a few cosmetic differences (specifically the grille, bumpers and head- and taillights) returns the model to production after a year off.
Even with the hiatus, however, the 2008 Tribute is almost the same size as the previous models (2001-2006) with nearly identical power trains and interior space. It also still has seating for five, and four doors plus a back lift-gate with a glass window that flips open separately from the rest of the door.

The mid-sized 2008 Kia Sorento SUV seats five and is available in two trim levels, the LX and EX at an MSRP range of $20,995 to $26,195. The LX is outfitted with a 3.3-liter V6 producing 242 hp (new for this model year) while the EX has a 3.8-liter V6 at 262 hp. The five speed manual transmission has been discontinued on the Sorento in favor of an automatic with a sequential shift mode.

Completely redesigned for the 2007 model year, there have been no significant changes to the 2008 Kia Amanti midsize sedan. With plenty of room for 5 adults and an abundance of luxury features not commonly found is such a reasonably priced sedan, the Amanti is definitely worth considering if you are in the market for a family sedan.

The all-wheel drive 2008 Volvo XC70 midsize crossover offers a fuel efficient and practical alternative to larger, gas guzzling SUV's. Although not suitable for heavy hauling and towing, its car like handling dynamics combined with its raised suspension and Volvo's excellent all wheel drive system enables drivers to conquer snow covered roads and travel through muddy terrain with ease. Passenger and cargo areas are ample and well designed. The XC70 was completely redesigned for the 2008 model year, with changes including a refreshed interior and exterior as well as more horsepower.

Former Ferrari boss Jean Todt said the decision to hire Kimi Raikkonen as driver instead of Fernando Alonso was proven right by the way the last Formula One season unfolded.
Todt said he passed two-time world champion Alonso as the replacement for Michael Schumacher, who retired in May 2006, because he believed Raikkonen's character fit Ferrari better.

French carmaker Renault SA said Friday that vehicle sales rose 2.2 per cent last year and predicted growth of at least 10 per cent in 2008 as the company's turnaround strategy gathers pace.
The return to growth last year follows a 4 per cent contraction in 2006 as a lack of fresh models kept customers away from Renault's showrooms.

One unanswered question is just how thirsty the new Land Cruiser will be. The EPA has not yet released official 2008 ratings on the redesigned Land Cruiser. The EPA Web site says the 2007 model returns 13 mpg in city driving and 17 mpg on the highway; it also lists the estimated new EPA mileage at 12 mpg in city driving and 15 mpg on the highway, although it is not clear whether this refers to the 2008 model.

Engineered to be a safety leader, the CR-V achieves the highest five-star crash safety rating by the federal government for both frontal and side impacts and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rates the CR-V as a "Top Safety Pick - 2007."
